The Best Aftercare for Laser and Microneedling

Some of the most popular skincare treatments are laser and microneedling. As technological developments continue to become more refined, and the research goes deeper, so too do these treatments become more effective and varied. People seek them out to help with primarily concerns related to texture and tone. While the actual treatment is extremely important, an absolutely critical phase to these treatments is the aftercare phase. This ensures that the skin is care for not only properly, but optimally. Which means you gotta make sure you're using the right product(s)!

Now, there are many different kinds of lasers out there. And depending on what you're getting it for, microneedling has different settings to be more or less gentle. But one thing remains the same: you're gonna need a private label skincare product that maximizes the care of your skin without causing irritation. And by and large, one of the most popular product types for this purpose is some kind of stem cell or peptide serum. Here's why:

Plant stem cells and peptides are used to help aid the skin in having a smooth, plump and young look and feel. Customers who are interested in the best of high end skincare products typically go for one or both of these ingredients. Estheticians learn about them. Your dermatologist most likely carries a product that includes them. In short, they're a big deal in the skincare world. And an even bigger deal when it comes to helping post-treatment skin.

See, when your skin undergoes a laser treatment or microneedling session, it sustains a controlled amount of damage (this is especially true for microneedling). While you've no doubt been taught to avoid damaging your skin as much as possible, in cases where you're undergoing something like microneedling, the whole point is to inflict mild damage onto the skin in order to prompt it to heal itself. Why? Because when the skin heals itself, it produces lots of collagen! This right here is why microneedling is becoming a more and more popular treatment for people with deep scars, which are otherwise notoriously hard to help. Similarly, different kinds of laser treatments, like fraxel for example, also work to resurface and/or to stimulate the skin's production of collagen.

A good stem cell and/or peptide serum should help the skin faster and with better results than if you were to recover without one. And usually, the serum will also contain vitamin C and/or hyaluronic acid as well. Which is great! Hyaluronic acid especially can feel so soothing to the skin, and is a master at helping it to look and feel more plump and firm. Some people find after a laser or microneedling session that their skin peels and is red. Using a hyaluronic acid serum may be able to help due to its hydrating nature.

Vitamin C, on the other hand, though awesome and very popular in the private label skincare world (for good reason), can be a little more sensitizing. Though it's great for basically all things skincare and a total master when it comes to helping the skin look and feel plump and firm, some people do find it to be a bit much for their skin. If you know your skin is on the sensitive side, you might want to stay away from vitamin C in your aftercare serum and stick with peptides, plant stem cells and hyaluronic acid instead.

Now, what about if you want something else? Maybe your esthetician or dermatologist carries an aftercare serum similar to what we've described, but you're curious about what else is out there. If that's the case, we recommend you look into the wondrous world of active botanical oil serums. Just like a regular serum, they're easy to absorb, and can be super soothing to the skin if properly formulated and the ingredients are of good quality.

One of the absolute best oils to make sure your oil serum includes is rosehip seed oil. And double points if it's a CO2 extract! That's because rosehip seed oil is used extensively for skin that needs true, deep renewal. Especially by those with scars, or with anything that could cause a scar. Hence its use for things like microneedling and laser aftercare!

Another one to look out for is sea buckthorn oil. And it just so happens that it pairs really well with rosehip seed. Seabuckthorn oil has a very unique essential fatty acid profile and is also rich in vitamin C- two things that are very beneficial for skin that's post procedure. It has a deep and beautiful organge color so a little goes a long way. Both seabuckthorn and rosehip seed oils have mild yet pleasant natural aromas as well, which adds to the pleasantness of using them. If you're DIY-minded you could even use one or both of these oils on your skin (diluted in some jojoba oil if you want) to help it along as it rebuilds itself.

One thing to remember though: stay away from a lot of essential oils during this time, especially very strong ones like tea tree. After a skin treatment like laser or microneedling, essential oils like that have a much higher possibility of causing irritation than smooth and soothing carrier oils and less potent essential oils like lavender.

If you're thinking about getting a laser or microneedling treatment, make sure you're prepared with the right aftercare. There's a good chance the med-spa or dermatologist you're seeing retails one. If so, check out the ingredients and make sure they include plant stem cells, hyaluronic acid and/or plant peptides. You could also pick one up from a place like RainShadow Labs Buy Direct or your favorite brand. If you're going down the oil serum path, look for seabuckthorn and rosehip seed oil, and try to stay away from harsh and numerous essential oils like tea tree.
